Hello.
I would like to change my surname. The issue is that when we left country many years ago my parents registered us under a different name in the destination country. Have been using that name all my life. I have a Lebanese passport under my original name and a euopean passport with the name that I have always used. Now I would like to change the original name to the one I have always used. Is it doable and what do I have to do. Is there lawyers that have done this in the past that can be recommended?
Thanks in advance.
Hello Mustafa, I worked two cases with success. But your issue is extremely tough to convince the judge and let him accept to change a surname (a family name). Even though you have your strong reason of "known outside Lebanon by another name of family" (because I know outside Lebanon it is easier to use other names than the one Lebanese) But there is as well the territorial law of Lebanon.. you have "that name of family" in Lebanon... so which is stronger "reason of international benefit" or "Lebanese law inside Lebanon" So I guess it will be as I told very difficult and delicate issue. I suggest even before making such case... and paying for lawyers is you make your contacts in Lebanon and see who is the judge who will take your case and study it.. and meet his employees i mean (Al Qalam) if not himself the judge and ask if there is chance he accepts the case... because as I told you I doubt you can win it... blessing. William
Thank you very much Mr Matar. The thing is I don't have any contacts in lebanon nor do I fully understand how things work either. How would I know who the judge would be? Would it be better/easier to approach this through a contact? I did see a case on Al Jadeed once where they changed a guy's name and gender which gave me hope. To be honest I have no idea who to contact or even where to start. All help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
Another thing I forgot to mention is that I will not be changing the religion 'ta2fe' not the location. It's simply just the name so how would that affect the territorial law? Sorry for my lack of knowledge.
can you email me to onefineart @ gmail.com I will see if i can help
